Hi. It's been a long time since I played RPGs, and I'm now looking
for something to give my 11-year-old nephew for Christmas. GURPS
looks pretty good, but even the basic rulebook has more detail than
he's going to want, and the GURPS Lite download from the SJG site
doesn't explain the game enough. Is there a stripped-down version of
GURPS somewhere that'd be suitable for his age range?
Thanks,
there is BURPS

See if you can find a copy of "Orcslayer." It has the rules for "Man to Man," which is similar to GURPS combat system. He could also use GURPS Lite 3e to add magic, as well as listings of assorted weapons. The only other thing I'd reccomend is giving him copies of both GURPS Lite 3e and the adventure "Caravan to Ein Arras." Don't bother with GURPS Lite 4e, because it really isn't a good standalone game.
