I remember playing around with Traveller vehicles, and later with Car
Wars and GURPS space and so on, and having a good time, but always
wishing for less "clunky" rules that would let me really go in and mess
around on a finer more detailed scale, and with more assumptions. When
GURPS Vehicles came out I thought it would really be what I wanted, but
it turned out to be just too many factors all at once for me, and I
never really got anywhere with it.
I remember at the time thinking that what I really needed was a good
spreadsheet or something, where the computer could take care of all the
math and interelated factors, and I could just play around with
different assumptions and designs and see what I could come up with.
At the time I couldn't find anything, but its been a few years now (and,
sadly, another edition)
