What would be likely alternative venue for British Parliament? I'm creating
an alternate world in which the Gunpowder Plot succeeded, becoming what it
could easily have been IRL, the 9/11 of its day.

- should the royal fool've survived, nevertheless;

holyrood palace?

edinburgh castle?

the white tower (with those subject to royal disfavour
invited to attend by way of the water gate) ?

hampton court (much lesser military aspect, but defensible;
suitable once the security scare level drops) ?

- defensible, but too exposed to powerful foreign navies such
as the dutch, maybe:

greenwich palace?

- much less defensible, but also not a royal palace:

the guildhall?

- i'm not sure which other guilds and associations had a hall
in london or westminster that the lords temporal and ecclesi-
astic would have felt suitable - perhaps, the wool traders?

- love, ppint.

As Peter says or implies, a lot will depend on (a) whether James
himself survives, and (b) whether the response is to recreate
Parliament or at least create a grand council to govern the realm, or
to centralise power so that the king can Deal With the evils besetting
his state. With extreme prejudice and hot irons.

If you've got a new (pseudo-)Parliament and a determination - at least
on the surface - to keep calm and carry on, well, there are various
big halls round London. In the extreme opposite case, pick a castle or
fortifiable palace miles from anywhere.

(The small town where I live was apparently the site of one of James's
favourite hunting lodges. I keep meaning to work up an
Absolutist-Stewart timeline where it ends up as Britain's Versailles.
But that's not really relevant here.)

Hampton Court? Away from the stinking part of the Thames, but still
reasonably commutable by river...
