While watching a 'Buffy' rerun, it occurred to me, where would a modern day
adventuring party, like the Scooby Gang, GET all of those weapons? More
stakes than you can count, swords axes and of course that famous scythe.
Mutant Enemy would have a props department for that, but can a modern
adventurer just go into a shop and buy a scythe?

My local [UK] garden centre has scythes, but they're a pretty
specialised tool and most people don't know how to wield them
effectively. Stakes are no problem, just buy lightweight fence posts,
which are already lightly sharpened. Swords and axes are trickier;
if any good for fighting rather than display, they'd be mail-order, and
you might have to wait a month or two while they're being made.

Heck, you can pick up most gardening or farming tools at yard sales. I
just recently bought a sledgehammer and brush hook
[http://www.buyhardwaresupplies.com/?t=5&m=g1&itemNumber=75398] at a
yard sale for $7. As for actual swords & axes there are *hundreds* of
websites that sell them. You could quite easily outfit an entire
adventuring party in an afternoon from your desk.

In the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill, NC area, most garden supply stores as
well as hardware stores carry scythes, bush axes (glaves), double bit
and single bit axes, camper's axes and hatchets (both of the latter can
be considered throwing axes). Numerous "hobby" stores and a large number
of the oriental arts and some of the "gift" stores (and a tobacco
store!) carry various swords, spears, flails, throwing stars, etc.

Here's to good GMing!
