What's with the red uniform Prince William was wearing at his wedding? Is it
a ceremonial military uniform? It sure looks it.

He's an Honorary Colonel in the Irish Guards; that was their dress
uniform. British royals tend to get a lot of those honorary regimental
positions; his grandmother is nominally a member of more military
units than she can likely remember. (Captain-General of the Royal
Regiment of Australian Artillery, Colonel-in-Chief of the Royal
Australian Engineers, Colonel-in-Chief of the Royal Australian
Infantry Corps...)

Members of the RAF may feel slightly irritated with that choice,
really. They've got a perfectly good dress uniform of their own, and
he's a serving member of that service - a Flight Lieutenant in
helicopter search-and-rescue - with, apparently, a perfectly credible
real career there. What was he doing getting married in scarlet rather
than blue?

In GURPS terms, Military Rank 4, Courtesy Rank +2.
